Police say boyfriend decapitated seven-year-old boy

THIBODAUX, La., Aug. 15 (UPI) -- A 30-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder for allegedly decapitating his girlfriend's disabled 7-year-old son, police in Louisiana said.

Jori Lirette's decapitated remains were found outside his home Sunday afternoon, the Thibodaux Daily Comet said.

Police said Jeremiah Lee Wright is the live-in boyfriend of the victim's mother, Jesslyn Lirette, 27, although it was unclear if he is the boy's biological father. The victim, Jori Lirette, had cerebral palsy and was wheelchair-bound, police said.

Jesslyn Lirette was getting her truck fixed when her son was killed, police said.

Wright allegedly confessed to killing the boy and has cooperated with investigators, officials said. He was being held at the Lafourche Parish jail in lieu of a $5 million bond. If convicted he could face the death penalty.

A driver spotted Jori's head alongside the road shortly after noon Sunday. The rest of his body was found in a white garbage bag nearby.

Wright cut the boy's head off in the kitchen sink, police said but declined to confirm a meat cleaver was used.

An autopsy was under way Monday.

"Not in 22 years have I seen something like this," Police Chief Scott Silverii said. "It's just heinous."
