Embezzler says she stole to keep mate

MILWAUKEE, May 21 (UPI) -- A bookkeeper says she embezzled more than $600,000 from a Milwaukee kitchen remodeling company to bribe her husband to stay with her.

Mary Radiske was sentenced Thursday to five years for robbing her longtime employer, Wisconsin Kitchen Mart, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

Judge Jean DiMotto also imposed 10 years of extended supervision after her release -- more than twice what the state sought -- plus extra restitution.

Radiske, who pleaded no contest in January, apologized. She said her motive was to please her husband with a lavish lifestyle, but he filed for divorce when she got caught.

"I wanted him to be happy," she said. "I wanted him to love me. I did all this for him and hurt the people who really did care about me."

Prosecutors said there is no evidence Randall Radiske, who worked for the related Hampton Cabinetry business, knew of the embezzlement, but Wisconsin Kitchen Mart is suing him.

Randall Radiske has refused to answer questions under oath, invoking his right against self-incrimination. The company also has intervened in the divorce, contending the couple's assets were bought with the embezzled funds and are not marital property subject to division.
