DETROIT, May 13 (UPI) -- A prostitution ringleader has been sentenced in Detroit to 14 months in jail -- half the time sought by federal prosecutors.
Sentencing Greg Carr Thursday, U.S. District Judge Arthur Tarnow said, "As far as I can tell, he was not a thug, or a woman beater, or a man beater, or any kind of beater," the Detroit Free Press reported.
The judge said it was rare for federal courts to take prostitution cases not involving violence and noted Carr's lack of a prior record.
Prosecutors seized a database of more than 30,000 clients of Miami Companions, including an unnamed rock star and a Washington lobbyist, who paid up to $500 an hour, the newspaper said.
Tarnow has ordered the list kept secret.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Blackwell objected to the sentence, but U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade said she has not decided whether to appeal it.
Carr, who had pleaded guilty to money laundering and prostitution conspiracies, said: "I had two identities. That person died. I know what I did was wrong."
His girlfriend and former employee Fabiola Contreras pleaded guilty Thursday to helping hire illegal immigrants at the service.
