Spa owner sues over fishy feet

PHOENIX, April 26 (UPI) -- An Arizona appeals court will hear arguments in a civil suit seeking to secure a spa owner's right to have fish eat dead skin off patrons' feet.

The Arizona Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments Wednesday in the piscatorial pedicure suit filed by spa owner Cindy Vong and the Goldwater Institute that was dismissed by a lower court.

The Arizona Board of Cosmetology said in early 2009 it would pull Vong's license if she didn't cease that particular service, saying the fish were unsafe because they could not be sterilized, The Arizona Republic reported Tuesday.

Vong and the institute sued the board in December 2009 saying it lacked jurisdiction because the procedure was not a cosmetic service and banning it violated Vong's right to run her business.
