LOS ANGELES, April 5 (UPI) -- At least eight more women may have been victims of the alleged serial killer nicknamed the "Grim Sleeper," Los Angeles police said Tuesday.
Lonnie Franklin Jr., 58, has already been charged with killing 10 women. The news media gave him his nickname because of an apparent gap in killings between 1988 and 2002.
At a news conference, detectives said they found evidence during a search of Franklin's home linking him to two women who are known to have been killed, CNN reported. One of the dead women remains unidentified.
Investigators said they suspect Franklin of being involved in the disappearance of six women, the Los Angeles Times reported. In three cases, items belonging to the women, including ID cards, were found at his house, while three were last seen under circumstances similar to some of his other alleged victims.
After Franklin's arrest, police found photographs and video showing 180 women in his home. While many of the women have been identified and found to be alive, 55 remain unidentified.
Detective Dennis Kilcoyne said additional charges are not expected soon, CNN reported.
"It would be like starting over again, with this wheel of justice that is slowly turning now with Mr. Franklin," he said. "We don't want to create that problem with the justice system."
