GOP claims Democrats are doing nothing

WASHINGTON, March 19 (UPI) -- U.S. Democrats are "throwing a wrench into the gears of jobs creation," Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Wash., said Saturday in the party's weekly media address.

The freshman House representative said Democratic President Barack Obama's economic policy would neither help the country pull out of its recession or cut bloated government spending.

She said Democrats were "throwing a wrench into the gears of job creation with regulation after regulation that, just by entering the pipeline, breed more fear and uncertainty.

"As a result, our economy isn't producing enough jobs. It's struggling," she said.

For a second year, Congress hasn't passed a federal budget and the country is operating on a continuing resolution, widely described as a housekeeping system to simply pay the nation's bills. Obama's budget has been derailed in the Republican-dominated House as the Senate majority Democrats have resisted amendments to slash spending.

Accordingly, Beutler said the Democrats were holding the country back.

"The Senate needs to step up and follow us in passing a bill so we can prevent a government shutdown and support job growth by reducing spending," she said. "But to date, the Democrats in the Senate haven't passed anything -- and instead of offering a credible, long-term plan, the president has stayed on the sidelines."
