Man accused of impersonating air marshal

BOSTON, March 1 (UPI) -- A Massachusetts man was arrested Tuesday and charged with impersonating a federal air marshal to speed up his car accident insurance claim, authorities said.

When Abdirahman Y. Hassan, 31, of Chelsea, was questioned by an auto body shop employee about inconsistencies in his claim about supplemental damage to his car that wasn't visible in an insurance adjuster's photos following his Dec. 30 accident, Hassan allegedly responded, "I would never do that, I'm a U.S. marshal."

He later allegedly told an insurance investigator dealing with his accident claim he has been a U.S. air marshal since 2009.

"I need to move this along, I'm very busy flying all over the country as a U.S. air marshal, I need my car," Hassan allegedly said.

Hassan, a "ramp worker" for Delta Airlines, faces as much as three years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
