1st indicted for sex trafficking sentenced

NEW YORK, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- The first person indicted under a New York sex trafficking law was sentenced three to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to crimes against three girls.

The 2007 provision under which Woodley Gaston, 25, of Queens, was charged was signed into law by Gov. Elliot Spitzer, who later resigned after an alleged prostitution scandal, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

Gaston acted as a pimp for three underage girls and used Craigslist to post sexually explicit photographs of two of his victims.

"The defendant preyed on troubled and needy teenage girls, used them for his sexual gratification and then as a commodity to be sold to others for cash, which he then pocketed for himself," District Attorney Richard Brown said.
