Man charged with 50 gun trafficking counts

WASHINGTON, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- A Raleigh, N.C., man faces a 50-count federal grand jury indictment charging him with international gun trafficking.

Steven Greenoe, 37, was charged Wednesday with, among other things, conspiring to export guns illegally from the United States, the U.S. Justice Department said. Greenoe allegedly concealed 63 disassembled pistols in his checked luggage on a flight from Raleigh to the United Kingdom.

Greenoe, a former U.S. marine, claimed in federal court in 2010, he was taking the guns to Britain to sell to employees of a private security company he said operated, The (Raleigh) News & Observer has reported.

"ATF will not condone illegal firearms trafficking in any manner, whether domestic or international. We will use all of our resources to aggressively work with our domestic and international law enforcement partners to identify and put a stop to those that commit violations of the federal firearms laws," said Zebedee T. Graham, ATF Special Agent in Charge. "As demonstrated in this case, ICE and its federal partners will continue pursuing individuals and organizations which seek to circumvent our export laws," said Brock Nicholson, acting special agent in charge of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations in Atlanta.
