Ill. city workers face action over porn

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Jan. 26 (UPI) -- City officials in Springfield, Ill., say dozens of city workers will be disciplined for using office computers to view pornography while at work.

Springfield Mayor Frank Edwards said the improper use of computers was discovered after a computer at City Water, Light and Power "locked up," the Springfield Journal-Register reported Tuesday.

After an internal investigation, Edwards said he was recommending employees receive the maximum punishment: five days suspension without pay.

"We're not going to mess around with this stuff," he said.

Most of the 50 employees involved in viewing and sending pornography on city computers worked for the CWLP department, he said.

The incidents occurred before he took office in late December, Edwards said.
