CLEVELAND, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- A retired Cleveland police officer has pleaded guilty to seeking sex with a 12-year-old girl and collecting child pornography.
Robert Bonness, 53, of Parma, Ohio, will be sentenced March 4 on a charge of attempted rape and 24 other counts related to his collection of child pornography, the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reported Thursday.
Prosecutors say Bonness responded to a Craigslist advertisement from a father and daughter interested in a "special person."
For two months, Assistant County Prosecutor Frankie Goldberg said, Bonness communicated with an undercover detective he thought was the father of a 12-year-old girl and arranged to meet them Oct. 28 in North Olmsted to have sex with the girl.
Police say they found condoms, lubricant and sex toys in his car when he arrived.
After his arrest his home computer was confiscated and revealed hundreds of videos and photographs of child pornography, police said.
Bonness was a patrolman in Cleveland for 23 years, the Plain-Dealer reported.
