Top Air Force enlisted man in sex trial

DAYTON, Ohio, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A top U.S. Air Force enlisted man is facing trial on charges he sexually harassed and had sex with Air Force women whom he outranked, military officials said.

Chief Master Sgt. William C. Gurney of the Air Force Materiel Command at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base could be sentenced to 34 years in military prison, dishonorable discharge, loss of rank and forfeiture of all military pay and retirement income if he is convicted, the Dayton (Ohio) News reported Monday.

A court martial will take place at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, the newspaper said.

The charges include sexual harassment, dereliction of duty, failure to maintain professional relationships, maltreatment of subordinates, indecent conduct, attempted manipulation of the Air Force personnel system and adultery.

Gurney formerly advised Gen. Donald Hoffman, the AFMC's commander, as advocate for the all enlisted men and women in the command's 10 bases.

Gurney was removed from that job in November 2009 after the Air Force Office of Special Investigations looked into complaints Gurney was making unwanted advances.
