Lawsuit filed over alleged death threat

BURBANK, Calif., Jan. 21 (UPI) -- The family of a California student who had sex with his teacher filed suit against the teacher's policeman husband, alleging he threatened to kill the student.

The lawsuit also names the Los Angeles Police Department as a defendant, the Burbank Leader reported.

The complaint filed this week in Los Angeles County Superior Court alleges Los Angeles Police Department Officer Nathan Beck, who allegedly found the couple in his home in March, threatened to kill the teenage boy and his parents with his department-issued weapon, the newspaper said Thursday.

"Officer Beck yelled at the victim and threatened that he would kill the victim with his police gun," the complaint reads.

Amy Beck, 33, a teacher at David Starr Jordan Middle School, and the unnamed student met for sex in a seven-month relationship ending in December 2009 that left her wracked with guilt, CBS News said.

Beck turned herself in to police in March 2010 and pleaded no contest to unlawful sexual intercourse and committing a lewd act on a child and was sentenced to two years in prison. She must also register as a sex offender for the rest of her life, CBS said.

The incident involving officer Beck allegedly happened following his wife's confession, the Leader reported.

The family's complaint accuses the LAPD and city of Los Angeles for failing to investigate or take any disciplinary action after receiving complaints of Beck's conduct.
