WASHINGTON, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Liberal groups are pressuring President Obama to hold the line on U.S. taxes instead of compromising with Republicans on extending the Bush cuts.

MoveOn.org and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee have both created commercials targeting the president. The committee's ad, titled "Obama Promised," shows Obama as a candidate in 2007 saying he would allow the cuts for those with incomes over $250,000 to expire.

Republicans want to extend all the cuts. The cuts, passed when the Republicans had majorities in both houses, had an expiration date to avoid limits on adding to the national debt.

"President Obama made a clear promise during the 2008 election, and our ad reminds him that he has a choice," said Stephanie Taylor, the group's co-founder. "He can keep his promise and make sure that the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share of taxes. Or he can break his promise, add billions to our national debt, and leave his past supporters demoralized by caving to Republicans even when they are clearly wrong. The choice is his."
