Georgia police execute major meth bust

NORCROSS, Ga., Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Police in Gwinnett, Ga., said Tuesday they seized nearly 1,000 pounds of methamphetamine valued at more than $44.6 million.

Investigators, acting on a tip they received Monday, arrested at least one suspect in what they call one of the largest methamphetamine confiscations ever in the United States, the Gwinnett Daily Post reported.

Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter said it appeared no one was living at the home where the search warrant was executed overnight. One suspect, identified as Jose Galvez-Vela, 33, of Weslaco, Texas, was arrested, the newspaper said.

The suspect was being held without bond at the Gwinnett County Jail, charged with trafficking methamphetamine.

Gwinnett has a reputation as a significant element in the drug trafficking pipeline, the Daily Post said.
