WASHINGTON, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- President Barack Obama's promises to change the country aren't happening, House Republican leader Rep. John Boehner of Ohio said Saturday.

In the GOP's last weekly radio and Internet address before midterm elections Tuesday, Boehner criticized the Democratic president's economic stimulus package, healthcare policy and energy policies, The Hill reported.

"One in ten of our fellow citizens is out of work," he said. "Our national debt has grown by $3 trillion."

Some of Boehner's remarks weren't as acerbic, such as "these problems didn't start under President Obama," and "Americans are demanding a new way forward in Washington -- an approach that neither party has tried."

He said Congress needs to reduce spending and prevent tax hikes by extending the Bush-era tax cuts.

It's widely expected Republicans will gain a congressional majority in Tuesday's elections, and Boehner is the most likely candidate to become House Speaker, the newspaper said.
