Reid: Angle trying to reshape GOP

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says his Republican opponent would be bad for Nevada and for the Republican Party there if she wins.

Reid, seeking a fifth term, told an MSNBC interviewer Thursday: "I've never had to prove my manhood to anyone." That is a reference to Sharron Angle's best-known line from their debates when she told him: "Man up, Harry Reid."

Angle, a Tea Party favorite who defeated a candidate with the backing of the Republican establishment, "is trying to create a Republican Party that Republicans can't recognize," Reid said. The Democrat pointed to a long list of Nevada Republicans who have endorsed him and said Angle is "is extreme, dangerous and an embarrassment to Nevada."

Nevada has been hit harder by the recession than almost any other state with unemployment in double digits. Reid said the situation would be even worse if Congress had not passed the stimulus bill.
