Phoenix mayor says house robbed, city safe

PHOENIX, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- The mayor of Phoenix said his city was still a safe place overall even though his own home had been robbed this weekend.

Mayor Phil Gordon said a burglar broke in the through the back door of his central Phoenix home sometime Friday night or Saturday morning and ripped off his laptop computer.

Gordon was alone in the house at the time. He said he called his police security detail to report the break-in.

"One crime is too many," Gordon said Saturday, "Phoenix is still a very safe city."

The Arizona Republic in Phoenix said Sunday that Phoenix police announced last month that some citywide crime statistics were at 20-year lows.
