No accounting for some stimulus funds?

WASHINGTON, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- The U.S. Office of Management and Budget says 352 recipients of federal stimulus money have failed to report how it was spent.

Danny Werfel, the OMB controller, said compliance has increased markedly in the past year and fewer than 1 percent of the 88,000 recipients of grants and loans are not in compliance, USA Today reported Wednesday. But the newspaper said its examination of federal records finds little enforcement of the rules, with only one company so far excluded from future federal contracts.

The total amount of stimulus money given to those not in compliance is $162 million.

The Department of Agriculture has the most non-complying recipients, with reports missing from 100 companies who have received $103 million in stimulus funds. A department spokeswoman, Stephanie Chan, said officials "have worked aggressively" with the recipients to bring them into compliance, USA Today said one company that failed to file reports for three quarters got form letters.
