NEW YORK, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Former Obama administration budget guru Peter Orszag will ply his talents for The New York Times as a contributing columnist, the newspaper said Friday.

The former director of the Office of Management and Budget will begin writing for the Times' Op-Ed page Tuesday. "We welcome Peter Orszag's expertise and insight to our Op-Ed lineup," Andrew Rosenthal, the Times' editorial page editor, said in a release. "As a Washington insider and one of the most recognizable names in economics, his writing will provide a unique perspective on the national landscape."

As President Obama's first budget director, Orszag, 41, helped develop the 2009 stimulus package and the healthcare reform legislation passed this year.

He previously served as director of the Congressional Budget Office and was an economic adviser to President Bill Clinton.
