Plea offer made to Detroit's Sam Riddle

DETROIT, May 15 (UPI) -- Embattled Detroit political insider Sam Riddle is considering a one-time plea offer that includes three years in prison, sources told The Detroit News.

Sources familiar with the case say the offer from federal prosecutors would settle the corruption case against Riddle with a prison term similar to that given former Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers, the newspaper said Saturday.

Riddle, a onetime high-profile political consultant, was charged along with Conyers with allegedly shaking down companies that had business with the city council or the city's retirement system. Conyers pleaded guilty to bribery and is scheduled to report to prison July 1.

Riddle, recently convicted in a separate domestic violence case, told the News Friday he was mulling his options, although his natural instinct was to fight the charges at trial. "I have a lot of fight left," he said.
