Paredes, 52, then used a lighter and a can of bug spray as a makeshift blowtorch to try and ignite the gasoline, authorities allege.

Authorities allege in an arrest affidavit that Paredes used the two items to spray flames at his father during Sunday night's incident, but missed.

Paredes was arrested Monday morning and is being held without bail on charges of aggravated assault on someone older than 65 and battery on someone older than 65.

The Times said Paredes was previously arrested in Hillsborough County on charges ranging from battery on a law enforcement officer to driving under the influence.
