Bear suspected of attacking Florida man

LONGWOOD, Fla., Dec. 11 (UPI) -- A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokeswoman said a black bear is suspected of attacking a man at his home in Longwood, Fla.

Commission spokeswoman Joy Hill said the victim, whose identity was not released, was apparently attacked by a bear that had been feeding at the man's home for an undetermined length of time, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported Friday.

Hill said the man was attacked by the bear Thursday night and reports indicate he suffered lacerations to his nose and one of his eyes.

The bear fled the scene after the incident and state FWC officials are searching for the animal.

The Sentinel said if the bear is found and captured, the officials plan to have the wild animal euthanized.
