Car-bombing suspect arrested in Austria

ASPEN, Colo., Dec. 4 (UPI) -- A Colorado socialite suspected in the car-bombing death of her former husband was arrested in Austria after months on the run, authorities said.

The Aspen (Colo.) Times said Friday Pamela Phillips, 52, was arrested by Austrian police Thursday on a money laundering charge filed in the country of Lichtenstein.

Phillips had been sought by authorities in the United States since October 2008 in the 1996 death of her ex-husband, Gary Triano.

Authorities said the sheriff's office in Pima County, Ariz., were contacted after Phillips' arrest and the suspect will be extradited to Arizona to face murder charges in Triano's death.

Triano, 52, died Nov. 1, 1996, when his car exploded in a country club parking lot in Tucson.

Authorities allege Phillips gave $400,000 to Ronald Young so he would kill her former husband, allowing her to collect a $2 million life insurance policy.

Young, 67, is currently awaiting trial on charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, the Times said.
