Vote delayed on Baucus panel health bill

WASHINGTON, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- The U.S. Senate Finance Committee's vote on its version of healthcare reform, expected as early as Tuesday, has been delayed, two Democratic staffers said.

The vote was pushed back to allow the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office to score the nearly $900 billion bill to ensure its cost and revenue estimates are accurate, The Hill reported.

The bill was drafted by committee chairman Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., after negotiations with five other panel members -- three Republicans and two Democrats.

Of the five proposals in Congress, the Baucus plan is the only measure that doesn't include a public health insurance option. Instead, it would allow non-profit healthcare cooperatives to compete with private insurers to reduce insurance costs for low- and middle-income Americans.
