SANAA, Yemen, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Hundreds of Yemeni women called on tribal leaders to come to their aid after several women were killed allegedly by pro-regime fighters.

Washington has expressed frustration with Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh on a regular basis. Saleh this week summoned the U.S. envoy to Yemen to tell him he would sign a resignation deal brokered by the Gulf Cooperation Council but hasn't fulfilled the promise.

Saleh has made similar pledges as far back as March. Meanwhile, violence continues in the street as opposition forces clash with pro-regime fighters.

A group of women called on Yemeni tribal leaders for aid after several women and children were allegedly subjected to atrocities by Saleh's regime, the independent Yemen Post reports.

"Honorable proud men of all Yemeni tribes we are calling you to come to our aid and end the killing of women by the regime," the women said in a statement quoted by the newspaper.

The Post notes several women were killed in the street by pro-Saleh snipers. At least 15 female protesters were arrested last week by government forces.

The Post notes that a cease-fire called for by Saleh this week last about 90 minutes.
