SANAA, Yemen, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- The ruling General People's Congress in Yemen said it was reviewing a modified version of a proposal to usher in political transition in the country.

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh promised to return home "soon" after being released from a military hospital in Saudi Arabia. He spent roughly two months in a hospital recovering from wounds suffered during a June 3 attack on his presidential compound.

Saleh is facing international pressure to give up power. He's said to support a deal brokered by the Gulf Cooperation Council for immunity in exchange for his resignation but hasn't signed the measure.

A revised agreement backed by the ruling General People's Congress would give Saleh three months to resign after handing power to Vice President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi. Yemen after Saleh's resignation would then prepare for national elections and ultimately a new constitution, the Yemen Post reports.

The deal includes a possible restructuring of the country's military. Saleh's family controls most of the military in the country.

Saleh has said he's the legitimate leader in the country until his term expires in 2013.
