WikiLeaks: 9/11 cell still on the loose?

WASHINGTON, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- The whereabouts of three Qatari men allegedly tied to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in the United States are unknown, leaked U.S. diplomatic cables reveal.

The Daily Telegraph newspaper in London published U.S. diplomatic cables obtained by the Web site WikiLeaks that reveal U.S. investigators launched a search for men who allegedly carried out surveillance ahead of the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States.

The FBI said the three men -- Meshal Alhajri, Fahad Abdulla and Ali Alfehaid – carried out surveillance of the White House, the World Trade Center and in Virginia near the headquarters of the Defense Department and the CIA.

Staff at the Los Angeles hotel visited by the Qatari men said they had pilot uniforms in their rooms prior to the 2001 attacks.

The men, the documents reveal, took a plane to London instead of boarding their intended flight from Los Angeles to Washington on Sept. 10. The same flight a day later was crashed into the Pentagon, the Telegraph added.

Another suspect was identified as Mohamed al-Mansoori and was allegedly a supporter of the Qatari cell while they were in the United States. The Telegraph adds that the location of the men is unknown.

Zacarias Moussaoui, dubbed the 20th hijacker, is the only person convicted in a civilian court for a role in the attacks.
