Bachmann a potential Democratic target

WASHINGTON, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- The chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann says the Minnesota Republican is likely a major target for the Democratic Party.

Bachmann's chief of staff, Michelle Martson, said the congresswoman likely holds a high spot on Democrats' list of possible political targets given her open stances on key issues such as global warming, the Politico reported Saturday.

"She's definitely somewhere up there," Martson said.

Some Minnesota Democrats have been upfront with their concerns regarding Bachmann, adding credence to talk Democrats will likely make it a high priority to unseat her in 2010.

"She is a bizarre news story of the month every month," Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Chairman Brian Melendez said of Bachmann.

"She is so principally and diametrically opposed to the core principles that we have," Minnesota Democratic strategist Donald McFarland offered.

Michael Brodkorb, Minnesota Republican Party of Democratic deputy chairman, had a simple reason for such Democratic stances against Bachmann.

"I think she probably frustrates them because she's able to win every time," he told the Politico.
