Obama raises more than $1M for Corzine

JERSEY CITY, N.J., July 16 (UPI) -- President Barack Obama raised more than $1 million for New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine and the state Democratic Committee Thursday during a fundraiser.

The roughly 200 participants, paying between $5,000 to $10,000 to attend the afternoon event, heard Obama praise Corzine, up for re-election, saying the governor was "someone who had faith and confidence in me before I was United States senator," The Hill reported.

"We're at a rare moment where we've been given the opportunity to remake our world; a chance to seize our future," Obama said. "And as difficult as it sometimes is, what is inherent about the American spirit is the fact that we don't cling to the past in this country. We always move forward."

After the fundraiser, the two moved to an event at amphitheater, where officials said about 17,000 people attended.
