MONTREAL, June 14 (UPI) -- A Quebec woman in her 50s has become the sixth person to die after contracting the H1N1 flu in Canada, provincial health officials said Sunday.
The latest victim reportedly had an underlying medical condition, a situation common to all of the fatal cases of H1N1 flu in Canada so far, The (Montreal) Gazette reported. Other media outlets reported she lived in Montreal and died Saturday at a local hospital, the newspaper said.
There have been more than 3,500 cases of swine flu in Canada confirmed by laboratory.
Nearly 30,000 cases of H1N1 flu have been recorded in 74 countries, with at least 145 deaths attributed to it, the World Health Organization estimates.
