Clinton praises Biden choice

WASHINGTON, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton Saturday praised the choice of Joe Biden as Barack Obama's running mate.

"In naming my colleague and friend Sen. Joe Biden to be the vice presidential nominee, Senator Obama has continued in the best traditions for the vice presidency by selecting an exceptionally strong, experienced leader and devoted public servant," she said in a brief statement.

Clinton apparently was never formally vetted as a possible running mate by her former Democratic presidential rival, The New York Times reported. But the New York senator still concluded with supportive words for her Illinois colleague's of the Delaware senator for his ticket.

"Senator Biden will be a purposeful and dynamic vice president who will help Senator Obama both win the presidency and govern this great country," she wrote.
