WINDSOR, Ontario, June 11 (UPI) -- Canadian and U.S. authorities announced the seizure of 37 automatic weapons apparently destined for Toronto drug dealers.
The investigation that resulted in the arrests of five people in Detroit and a brother and sister in Windsor, Ontario, was a coordinated effort among the U.S. Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, U.S. Immigration, Customs and Enforcement, Ontario's Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit, Toronto police and Windsor police, the Windsor Star reported.
Denisa Manga, 21, and Julio Manga, 18, face a total of 78 criminal and customs charges involving weapons, the Toronto Sun said. The identities of the Detroit suspects weren't disclosed and more U.S. arrests were expected, Toronto Police Staff-Inspector Don Campbell said.
All the semi- and fully automatic weapons are illegal in Canada but legal in the United States, the reports said. They were traced to Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Oregon, Virginia and Wisconsin, ATF Special Agent Regina Lombardo said.
