S. Korea asks for help in terror fight

SEOUL, May 31 (UPI) -- The defense minister of South Korea Saturday asked the global community to take part in the fight against terrorist threats in Northeast Asia.

"The security of the region at large, in turn, is largely contingent on the security of Korea. In particular, the North Korean nuclear threat has direct and indirect ramifications for not only the Korean peninsula, but also regional stability and world peace," Lee Sang-hee said.

His remarks came during the 7th Asia Security Summit in Singapore, Yonhap News Agency reported Saturday.

The South Korean minister also said in his address attempts by one country against security threats "might not be enough."

"Therefore, the nations represented here today must be able and willing to combine their capabilities to meet the threats of tomorrow," he added.
