Reputed crime boss portraits pop up

PALERMO, Italy, April 24 (UPI) -- Four graffiti portraits of escaped alleged crime boss Matteo Messina Denaro suddenly appeared on a cathedral wall in Palermo, Italy, police said.

The images, each with its unique color scheme, are similar to the work of U.S. pop artist Andy Warhol, ANSA reported Thursday.

The pictures reportedly were modeled after the most recent photo of Denaro, 44, who many authorities claim has become the lead boss of Cosa Nostra in Sicily.

Along the bottom of the graffiti images are several dollar symbols, as Denaro means money in Italian, and the words, "Messina Denaro $ The Last," the report said. Near the paintings are the letters F.A. with a circle around them, police told ANSA. Authorities said the initials are probably those of the artist.

The FBI reported that Denaro is among the world's leading drug dealers.
