Suspect in slain Marine case spotted

JACKSONVILLE, N.C., Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Investigators say a U.S. Marine corporal suspected of killing a pregnant Marine in North Carolina has been spotted in another state.

Marine Cpl. Cesar Laurean was scene by a member of the general public, said Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown, WCNC-TV in Charlotte, N.C., reported Sunday. Brown declined to say where Laurean was seen.

Investigators believe they found the charred remains of Maria Lauterbach and her unborn child in a shallow grave Saturday in Laurean's backyard in Jacksonville, N.C.

Lauterbach went missing last month, not long after telling military prosecutors Laurean raped her. She was due to give birth next week, the station reported.

Prosecutors say Laurean has been in contact with attorneys while on the run.
