Giuliani focusing efforts on Florida

WASHINGTON, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been focusing his campaign efforts on the state of Florida and says he is confident it will pay off.

Appearing on "Fox News Sunday," the contender for the Republican presidential nomination said that while a recent poll indicated he was trailing Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., in Florida, he was confident he would win the state's upcoming primary.

"We're conducting a major campaign here in Florida," Giuliani said. "We've had great crowds yesterday, both places that we were at. Tremendous enthusiasm.

"So, this is a state in which we're well organized and we believe we're going to win."

The former mayor said Florida voters are particularly interested in discussing tax cuts, which has become a focal point of his campaign.

"I'm the candidate who has had the strongest record as a fiscal conservative, the strongest record as a tax cutter," he told host Chris Wallace. "We have just announced a program that everyone says is a very bold, creative program to reduce taxes."
