LOS ANGELES, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- One of Hillary Clinton's former California fundraisers used his relationship to lure investors into a Ponzi scheme.
The Los Angeles Times said Monday Norman Hsu flaunted his ties with the senator and former President Bill Clinton as he appealed to investors.
Aside from public praise from the Clintons, Hsu also liked to wear a jacket with the presidential seal that he said was a gift from the first couple.
Hsu is awaiting sentencing in the Bay Area on a 1992 theft charge stemming from his business ventures, and has also been hit with several lawsuits from investors who say they were cheated.
The Times said the lawsuits contend Hsu required his investors to make campaign contributions to his favored candidates as a condition of doing business with him.
Hillary Clinton's campaign returned some $800,000 in contributions that came to her presidential war chest through Hsu.
