Simpson to stand trial in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Former football star O.J. Simpson must stand trial for allegedly robbing two memorabilia dealers at gunpoint in a Las Vegas hotel room, a judge ruled Wednesday.

Judge Joe M. Bonaventure Jr. of Clark County Justice Court said there was adequate evidence for Simpson to face trial on a dozen counts, including kidnapping, arising from the Sept. 13 incident, The New York Times reported.

Simpson, who notoriously won acquittal in 1995 for the slayings of his ex-wife and her friend, left the courthouse without commenting to reporters.

Simpson maintains he wasn't armed and only went to the hotel room with five acquaintances to recover personal items that belonged to him. But the judge decided it was a matter for a jury to hear.

"The ultimate determination of credibility of the witnesses should be left to the jury," Bonaventure said. "I cannot make a determination that the credibility of the witnesses was so incredible and so fantastical to dismiss the charges at this time."

Two alleged accomplices, Charles Ehrlich and Clarence Stewart, also face trial. They all face life in prison if convicted on all charges.

Three others pleaded guilty in October and testified at the preliminary hearing.
