41 arrested in N.J. kid porn investigation

TRENTON, N.J., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- New Jersey State Police have charged 40 men and a woman with downloading or distributing child pornography.

The suspects were arrested over the last 10 days. They include a man already charged with sexually assaulting a teenage girl and a referee for girls' high school volleyball games, The Asbury Park (N.J.) Press reported.

None of those arrested in Operation Silent Shield have been shown to have manufactured child pornography, New Jersey Attorney General Anne Milgram said. She said that the videos found appear to show children from all over the world, including the United States.

"Child pornography is not a victimless crime," she said. "The victims ... are the most vulnerable and innocent members of our society."

The images include scenes of children being raped, Milgram said in the Press report. The children appear to range in age from about 4 years to 9 years.
