Man allegedly aided terrorist brother

SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 3 (UPI) -- A California man has been charged with sending guns and money to his brother, an accused member of the terrorist group, Jemaah Islamiyah.

Rahmat Abdhir, a U.S. citizen of Malaysian descent, was arrested early Thursday at his home in San Jose, the San Jose Mercury News reported.

Investigators said Abdhir kept in close touch with his younger brother, Zulkifli, by e-mail, using a simple code that referred to weapons as iron, government agents as dogs and bombs as prizes or presents. In one e-mail, sent the day before a deadly bombing in the Philippines, Zulkifli talked about having given away "presents" and planning to distribute more.

Zulkifli remains at large with a $5 million bounty on his head.

In addition to money and weapons, Abdhir sent news clippings, including one photo that showed a wanted poster for Zulkifli, and candy. Abdhir faces years in federal prison if he is convicted.

Jemaah Islamiyah, a southeast Asian group affiliated with al-Qaida, is responsible for a number of terrorist attacks, including the 2002 Bali nightclub bombing.
