Argentina revokes general's pardon

BUENOS AIRES, July 13 (UPI) -- Argentina's highest court has revoked the pardon for a former general during the country's military regime known at the "Dirty War."

Santiago Omar Riveros has been charged with 40 counts of human rights abuses dating back to the dictatorship from 1976-1983, La Nacion reported Friday online.

An estimated 30,000 were killed or disappeared during the dictatorship.

In recent years, President Nestor Kirchner has sought to overrule amnesties granted by previous administrations for ex-military leaders.
