New Jersey governor to return to work

NEWARK, N.J., May 5 (UPI) -- New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine has recovered enough from his car accident last month to return to work Monday, his office said Saturday.

Corzine, 60, relinquished power of the governor's office when he was seriously injured on April 12. New Jersey Senate President Richard Codey, D-Essex, has been serving as acting governor, the Newark Star-Ledger reported Saturday.

Corzine was in the front passenger seat of a sport utility vehicle driven by a state police bodyguard when it hit a guard rail on the Garden State Parkway.

Corzine, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was hospitalized for 18 days with 11 broken ribs, a broken sternum, broken clavicle and a femur broken in two places.

Corzine has already paid the $46 seatbelt violation fine, the newspaper reported. An investigation into the crash is continuing.
