Report: CIA ups pressure in bin Laden hunt

WASHINGTON, March 6 (UPI) -- The CIA's hunt in Pakistan for al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden is being beefed up based on new intelligence, U.S. officials told ABC News.

None of the officials who spoke with the network wanted their names used. Once source said new CIA operatives with paramilitary training were being sent to Pakistan's remote Waziristan province and beyond the border into Afghanistan as part of the search for bin Laden and his second-in-command, Ayman al-Zawahiri.

"Reports that the trail has gone stone cold are not correct," one intelligence official said. "We are very much increasing our efforts there."

Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell testified before a congressional committee last week that the al-Qaida leaders were in Pakistan, which was the first such public disclosure, the report said.
