2 lacrosse case grand jurors speak out

NEW YORK, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Two members of the grand jury that indicted three Duke University lacrosse players on rape charges spoke to "Good Morning America" Tuesday.

Both agreed to speak to the ABC show only on condition of anonymity and refused to talk about evidence presented to them in the grand jury room.

They have differing views of the case with one saying he would not have voted to indict based on what he has learned since, while the other said he would probably have made the opposite decision.

The North Carolina Attorney General's Office recently took over prosecution of the case from District Attorney Mike Nifong. Nifong dropped the rape charge but the young men are still charged with kidnapping and sexual assault.

Both grand jurors were upset about the decision to dismiss the rape charge. The alleged victim, who had been hired as an exotic dancer at a lacrosse team party, told investigators she was unsure if she had actually been penetrated.

"What do you mean you're not sure whether you got raped or not? That ... didn't add up," said the second grand juror, the one who had more sympathy with the victim.
