Rice supports Croatia entry to EU, NATO

WASHINGTON, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice fully supports Croatia's accession to the European Union and NATO, Croatian media reported Tuesday.

After his talks with Rice at the State Department in Washington Monday, Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader told reporters Rice had praised Croatia for what it has done on its way toward Euro-Atlantic integration, Croatia's HRT radio-television reported.

Rice and Sanader discussed a wide range of topics, from bilateral relations to major European issues.

"We agreed that despite world problems such as North Korea, Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan, the southeastern part of Europe must not be forgotten," Sanader told HRT.

Sanader said Rice supported Croatia's efforts to join the European Union and NATO as soon as possible.

Sanader was scheduled to meet President George W. Bush in the White House and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld in the Pentagon, HRT said.
