Karr denies JonBenet confession

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- The man cleared in the 1996 slaying of JonBenet Ramsey in Colorado told CNN Monday he never confessed to killing the 6-year-old beauty queen.

John Mark Karr, in an exclusive interview on Monday night's "Larry King Live," said he has never harmed a child and was "confused" by widespread reports that he had confessed to the Ramsey slaying, CNN said.

Karr was detained in Thailand and returned to the United States in August as a suspect in the Ramsey investigation, but was cleared after tests determined his DNA did not match a sample found at the crime scene.

It was widely reported that Karr had confessed in Thailand to killing JonBenet at her parents' home the day after Christmas in 1996.

But Karr told King, "I don't recall ever saying that I did anything, so that's where I'm confused about the question as well.

"I never gave a definitive overt yes or no to anything and I never said I did anything," Karr said.

Child pornography charges filed against Karr in 2001 were dismissed earlier this month by a California judge because authorities had lost the computer seized as evidence in the case.

Karr told King he was no longer the subject of any criminal cases and is "possibly a target for law enforcement to just keep their eye on."

He said he is moving to Atlanta, where his 85-year-old father lives.
