MANILA, Philippines, Oct. 7 (UPI) -- A special anti-corruption court in the Philippines has cleared Imelda Marcos, widow of former President Ferdinand Marcos in a conflict of interest case.
Marcos was charged with having an illegal interest in the Technology Resource Finance Corp. The court determined that the corporation is a non-profit group, so there was no conflict of interest in government officials being involved in it, the Philippine Star reported.
"Thank God, thank God. I survived years of relentless persecution. Justice has prevailed," Marcos told reporters after hearing the verdict.
Marcos was famous for her free-spending ways when her husband was president. She notoriously owned 1,200 pairs of shoes.
At Friday's court session, she was fashionably dressed in a purple skirt and long jacket with a silk scarf, jade and diamond earrings and a green crocodile purse as accessories. She cried when she heard the verdict, while her supporters applauded.
