CIA top brass go through polygraph

WASHINGTON, April 24 (UPI) -- An effort to plug leaks at the CIA has included special polygraph tests of many employees, The New York Times reported Monday.

Even CIA director Porter Goss, his deputy, Vice Adm. Albert M. Calland III, and Inspector General John L. Helgerson were tested to show employees they were willing to submit to the same procedure as everyone else.

The Times said that the polygraphs are in addition to the normal ones CIA employees go through at five-year intervals.

The polygraph of Helgerson was especially unusual. Normally, the inspector general, because he is charged with investigating the CIA, does not submit to investigative measures on the CIA's part.
