Giuliani testifies at Moussaoui trial

ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 6 (UPI) -- Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani testified Thursday as a prosecution witness at the Alexandria, Va., trial of confessed terrorist Zacarias Moussaoui.

Giuliani recalled the horror on Sept. 11, 2001, when two airplanes struck the World Trade Center. He recalled seeing people jumping to their deaths from the towers, including two people who appeared to be holding hands, the Washington Post reported.

"Of the many memories of that day that stick in my mind," he said, "that is one that comes back to me every day."

Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema ruled jurors can hear the 31-minute cockpit voice recorder tapes from United Flight 93 -- the flight that crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pa., after passengers overcame the hijackers. It is the only recording found of the four planes hijacked.

The jury found Moussaoui eligible for the death penalty on Monday, concluding lies he told federal agents a month before the attacks directly contributed to some of the nearly 3,000 deaths on Sept. 11.

Moussaoui, 37, testified against his public defenders' advice and incriminated himself. His attorneys have suggested he is hoping to become an al-Qaida martyr by being put to death.
